What is a skill gap?
A skill gap is the difference between the skills a job asks for and the skills your resume actually shows. Closing it starts with knowing exactly which ones matter, so you don't spend months learning things employers don't care about.
How TalentBuild AI finds your gaps
Paste a job description and we check your resume against it. You get the key skills, tools, and requirements from the posting, marked as present or missing and ranked by how important they are to the job.
Your career dashboard also shows skills commonly needed for your target role that aren't on your resume yet.
Turn each gap into a plan
- Pick the one or two gaps that show up most often in the roles you want.
- Find a course: we link each missing skill to search results on open and free learning sites, such as Coursera, edX, YouTube, MIT OpenCourseWare, Khan Academy, and freeCodeCamp, plus MySkillsFuture for Singapore.
- Build proof: a small project, a case study, or a certificate shows a skill more convincingly than a line in a list.
- Add the skill to your resume in context, next to the work where you used it, once you've really done it.
Not every gap deserves your time
Job descriptions mix must-haves with nice-to-haves. Focus on skills that appear in most of the roles you're targeting. Then check the market: our salary guide and hiring data show which fields are hiring and what roles pay, so you can judge whether a skill is worth learning.
Honest by design
We never suggest adding a skill you don't have. If it isn't true, it doesn't belong on your resume. Our course links open each provider's own search results. We don't choose or endorse specific courses, and many providers charge for certificates even when the learning itself is free.
