What the resume checker looks at
Your scorecard is built from five things a recruiter notices when skimming a resume:
- Impact and results: whether you show what changed because of your work, not just what you were responsible for.
- Clarity and structure: whether your roles, dates, and achievements are easy to follow at a glance.
- Skills visibility: whether the skills and tools you use show up clearly and in context.
- Seniority signal: whether your resume reads at the level you're aiming for, through scope, ownership, and decisions.
- Machine-readability: whether the layout is simple enough for both people and software to read without confusion.
How to get a higher score
- Lead each role with results. "Cut deploy time from two hours to fifteen minutes" beats "responsible for deployments".
- Add real numbers wherever you have them: time saved, money made, people managed, volume handled.
- Keep the layout simple: clear headings, consistent dates, and no text hidden inside images or complicated columns.
- Show skills in context, next to the work where you used them, not only in a list.
- Cut anything that doesn't help you get this kind of job, and keep it to what a reader can take in quickly.
ATS scores, explained
Many tools promise an "ATS score". An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software employers use to collect and sort applications. There is no single ATS: each one works differently, and in most hiring processes a person still reads your resume.
So instead of promising a magic number, we focus on what helps with both: a clean layout that software can read, and clear evidence of results that a person will notice.
What it can't tell you
The scorecard is an AI read of what's on the page. It can't know your full story, it can be wrong, and it isn't a prediction of any hiring decision. Treat it as a fast, honest starting point for what to improve.
Check it against a specific job
The free scorecard is a general read. For a specific role, create a free account and paste in the job description. You get a PASS / NO-PASS style verdict, the key skills you're missing, and the fixes that matter most. The free plan includes three of these analyses a month.
